Do you love to watch races? Do you get excited as you watch cars race towards the finish line? If so, come to the SCCA National Championship Runoffs. This is the championship race that is held at the end of the year for the Sports Car Club of America Club Racing’s amateur competitors. When staying in Monterey Ca, cheer for your favorites during 3 days of racing from October 10th through the 12th. Tickets are $25 per day and if you would like to buy a 3-day pass, tickets are $60. Admission for children under 12 years old is FREE!

At the National Championship Runoffs, divisional champions and several other best drivers from SCCA’s 115 regions have all been invited to participate in the race. National Championships are then awarded to those who win in each class through a winner-take-all, single race format. There are 27 different classes competing in the SCCA Club Racing National events. Some of these include: (1) “Production,” where cars are allowed to have a number of different performance modifications done on them; (2) “Prototype,” which includes purpose-built road racing cars; (3) “Sedans,” which consist of American muscle cars such as GTOs, Camaros, Mustangs and Firebirds. Other classes are “touring,” which include high performance cars; “grand touring,” which are highly-modified ‘silhouette’ replicas of sports sedans; and “super touring,” where late-model production based cars are allowed extensive modifications like engine swapping and the inclusion of wings.

The Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will host the SCCA National Championship Runoffs this year, making it the 7th track to host this event in the Runoff’s 50-year history. It is also exciting, because this marks the return of the National Championships to the West Coast for the first time since 1968 when the Riverside International Raceway closed. It is definitely a perfect location for this exciting event, so get your tickets today!
