If you’re staying in hotels in Monterey Bay CA this coming November, consider enrolling in the Big Sur Half Marathon for a great race destination weekend.  The marathon starts on Del Monte near Figueroa Street across from McDonalds in downtown Monterey and ends at Custom House Plaza, between Portola Hotel & Spa and Fisherman’s Wharf.

For a less intense event, consider the Pacific Grove Lighthouse 5K on Saturday, November 17. You must be five years of age or older and in good health. The 5K begins in downtown Pacific Grove on Lighthouse Avenue at Forest and ends in Jewell Park where post-race festivities and awards will take place. On race day there will be parking available in Pacific Grove parking lots and neighborhood streets. Kids are invited to take part in the Just Run! Just Kids Race series on November 17.

The entry fee to Big Sur Marathon is currently $125. The fee includes a t-shirt in gender specific signing, a finisher’s medallion by artist Kathleen Kelly, D-tag timing by Race Central, food & drink at the finish, a  free Race Weekend Guide, two day Health & Fitness Expo, fluids, fuel and sanitary facilities on course and live entertainment during the marathon.

The 2012 Health and Fitness Expo is located at the Monterey Conference Center at 1 Portola Plaza. It will be held on Friday, November 16 from noon to 6pm and Saturday November 17 from 9am to 6pm. At the Expo, Half Marathon participants can pick up their race bib, sweats bag and event shirt. Bring photo ID to register. Over 40 vendors at the Expo will offer a variety of fitness apparel and equipment along with health and fitness demonstrations. Get ready for a great weekend of fitness in Monterey!
