Big Little Lies - Modern Day

You’ve probably heard of the Emmy Award winning HBO show, Big Little Lies. Just as the acting and storytelling captivated audiences, so did the stunning backdrops of the show. Season 1 of the show had filming locations throughout Monterey as well as Big Sur, Carmel Highlands and Pacific Grove with many of the actresses even spending time in Pebble Beach during time off.


Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 1986

While the action of the film took place closer to San Francisco, it was actually the Monterey Bay Aquarium where filming took place for the aquarium and whale scenes. However, the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s name could not be used since it was supposed to take place in Sausalito, closer to SF. In the movie, the aquarium was located across the Golden Gate bridge.


The Graduate at Point Lobos - 1967

This classic movie starring a young Dustin Hoffman tells the story of a student who is falling for both an older woman as well as her daughter. The movie uses the Carmelite Monastery, located just south of Carmel in one of the driving scenes in the movie.
