Run Along the Monterey Coast during the Big Sur Half Marathon!

Do you like to push yourself to new levels? Have you considered running a marathon but want a little practice first? If so, consider registering for the Big Sur Half Marathon. This can be your chance to see if you have what it takes to run a full marathon. Or, maybe you simply love to run and are looking for a fun opportunity to be active. Whatever your reason, the Big Sur Half Marathon is an event you won’t want to miss. If you want to participate in this marathon but you’re from out of town, try staying in one of the affordable hotels in Monterey near Big Sur. This year, the Big Sur Half Marathon will be on Sunday, November 8th. Registration is now open! 

The Big Sur Half Marathon is actually part of the California Half and Full Marathon Series. Runners can attend any number of races that are being held this year providing a number of opportunities to run all across California. The Big Sur half marathon is unique in the fact that the course will have a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean while you run. During this time, the average weather in Monterey is 50 - 60 degrees and the humidity is rather low ranging from 30-50%. The race will begin at 6:55am in downtown Monterey at Del Monte Avenue and Camino El Estero. The race will end at the Custom House Plaza, which is located between Fisherman’s Wharf and Portola Hotel & Spa. If you are fast, get excited because first prize is $20,000. First prize will be awarded to the top 8 finishers, female and male.

Your entry fee to the 13th annual Big Sur Half Marathon includes an ASICS fabric t-shirt that comes in gender-specific sizing as well as a ceramic finisher’s medallion that was created by artist Kathleen Kelly. In addition, you will also receive food and drink at the finish, fluids and fuel as well as sanitary stations throughout the course, and live music and entertainment on the course to keep your energy up!
