The FIM Eni Superbike World Championship was founded in 1988. The bikes that are used in the races are actually versions of motorcycles that are sold to the public that have slightly been tuned. This is different with the MotoGP race where purpose built machines are raced instead. Companies that are in included in this race are Ducati, Aprilia, Honda, BMW, MV Agusta, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. While rounds typically take place throughout Europe, rounds occasionally take place in the United States, New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, Canada, Russia, Australia, and South Africa. In the race, there are a series of rounds that take place at different locations. During every round, there are two races. The results of each race are then combined to determine the winner of the round. At the end of the competition, the results of all the rounds are combined and two World Championships are declared – one for the riders and one for the bike manufacturers.
The races at the Mazda Raceway will take place on Sunday, July 19th. Warm-up will be from 9:15 – 9:30am and then Race 1 begins at 11:30am. Race 2 begins at 2:30pm. Gates open at 7am. On Friday, July 17th and Saturday, July 18th there will be a number of practices held for the athletes, which attendees are welcomed to watch.
