Families staying in hotels by downtown Monterey CA, come out for family friendly fun and exciting events such as music, other live entertainment and a special Kid’s Zone! This affordable and alcohol-free event gives you and your family a safe environment to bring in the New Year with the rest of the community!

This year, the theme of First Night Monterey is “SeaChanges, the Seaquel.” Artwork created by the community and youths, will speak to the theme of this year and showcase issues of pollution to the majesty of the ocean. Opening Ceremonies will begin at 3pm on the Colton Lawn stage. At 3:30pm, the Kids Night Out! will begin. At this event, kids can engage in a variety of events including viewing puppet art theater, getting henna tattoos from talented artists, face painting, sitting in on a magic show, listening to folk music performances and more will entertain your kids for hours! At 5:30pm, there will be a Twilight Procession down Alvarado Street. On this fantastic walk, enjoy stilt walkers, giant puppets, dancers, artists and other marching members of the community. There will also be an interactive Resolution Sculpture where you can write down your resolution for the New Year. The Grand Finale will begin at 11:15pm and will continue until midnight! Throughout the whole day, there will be a variety of musical performances from a wide range of genres.
