Attend the At&t Pebble Beach Pro Am!
The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am golf tournament is a winter tradition dating back as far as the 1930s. Now in its 75th year, the tournament was originally created by singer Bing Crosby in 1937 as a way to raise money for charity and to have a little fun on a golf course. Held across three golf courses each February, the tournament is now one of the more famous events in the PGA TOUR Golf Championships. The event spreads across the MPCC Shore Course, Pebble Beach Golf Links and the Spyglass Hill Golf Course. The top PGA TOUR professional players form teams with celebrities from Hollywood, the music industry and other renowned individuals and business leaders to compete for the coveted title and its significant prize money. The 2014 event will be taking place between February 3rd and 9th 2014.
During the competition, the teams start their attempts in the hope of making the famous ‘cut’ which takes place at the end of Saturday. After this cut, the remaining 60 professional players in the 25 pro-am teams go through to the Sunday finals for the Championship. As the competition starts there are 156 each of the professionals and the amateurs, working in pairs. On the three courses each day, 52 paired teams fight for their place in the final. Chosen after the teams reach the 54 hole mark, individual players with the 60 lowest scores are selected. As this is a lower cut than other contests, players in position 61- 70 receive an amount of money and points towards the Fed-Ex Cup.
As this is an important part of the professional PGA TOUR season, professional players are competing in a serious way for their titles. The individual competition section of the tournament is only open to professional golf players. These are chosen according to the usual PGA rules. If you will be staying at one of the hotels near Pebble Beach this February, don’t miss this event!
